Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion In Science
At the 2022 of Division on Dynamical Astronomy (DDA) of the American Astronomical Society (AAS), DDA Members’ Meeting (held at the annual meeting in New York City), the membership discussed initiatives to build a more inclusive DDA community. One suggestion that the membership seemed to feel passionately about was to improve the inclusivity and the reach of the DDA. Some of the suggestions for doing this included building stronger ties between the DDA and the international dynamics community and also having a space in the DDA to talk about issues relating to inclusion, diversity, and equity.
Together with Juliette Becker (U. Wisconsin), we founded the Dynamics Community Seminar series that aims to create a virtual space for dynamicists to have conversations about science and the non-science aspects of being a scientist. In particular, we hold seminars in an easily accessible online format to increase participation in the DDA by scientists of all career levels who have not traditionally been a part of the division in the past.
